About Us
Rick’s Story — From Rebellion to Redemption
Rick was born and raised in Anaheim, California, the third of five children—a 4 boys and one sister. I didn’t know him during his younger years, but from the stories I’ve heard, they were a mix of beauty, wildness, and God's undeniable providence. His early life was marked by rebellion and constant trouble with law enforcement—much like many of us before Christ. If you knew Rick before he met Jesus, you know this to be true.
But God.
“Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save…” (Isaiah 59:1).
God reached into Rick’s life and turned him around completely. From that point on, Rick never looked back.
Ironically, one of the reasons Rick said he didn’t want to become a Christian was because, in his words, “Everyone who gets saved ends up going to Africa.” And Africa? That was a no for him. But God, in His grace and humor, had other plans.
After Rick gave his life to Christ, all he wanted was to go to Africa—and that’s exactly where he spent his final year: serving God wholeheartedly on African soil. And to top it off, He married an African woman.
Rick used to say we first met in February 1999. Honestly, I don’t remember that moment. But I do remember April of that same year at Calvary Chapel Ongata Rongai in Kenya. It wasn't love at first sight, at least not for me.
While our marriage was very short, he told me a lot, and one thing that remains, besides loving the Lord, is prayer for my country. I had never met a man who passionately prayed for his country and the world at large, and I carry that with me!
Rick had one unshakable passion: to share the gospel. Period. God saved him from a world of rebelliousness, and he understood the power of God's Grace and His forgiveness!
Ruth's Story: From Rural Kenya to God’s Global Mission
I was born and raised in a small rural village in Kenya, about 55 miles from Nairobi—the firstborn of eight children, now seven. Like many young people from my area, after finishing high school—the highest level of education my family could afford—I moved to Nairobi in search of work to help support my family. Life in the village was marked by daily struggles to meet even the most basic needs. Deep down, I knew something had to change in that village, yet I often wondered, what could I possibly do?
I grew up attending Africa Inland Church, a ministry founded by missionary Peter Cameron Scott. Although I would not describe my home as a Christian home, my parents sent us to Sunday school, as many families in rural Kenya did. It was there, during a lesson on David and Goliath, that my heart was stirred: 1 Samuel 17:45, “You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts,” I realized David had something I did not—a relationship with God. Later that night, I knelt beside my bed and gave my life to Jesus Christ.
From then on, I immersed myself in ministry. I became a Sunday school teacher, served in youth ministry, and took every opportunity to serve others. That was the beginning of a lifelong calling. Over the years, I have had the privilege of traveling to different parts of Africa, ministering through physical, emotional, and spiritual support. Investing in people became my passion, rooted in James 2:14–26: “Faith without action is dead.”
More than a decade ago, I returned to school and began pursuing further education. I earned my GED, followed by an AA, a BS, and in June 2024, a Master’s degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology. Another meaningful milestone will come in June 2026, when I celebrate 10 years as a naturalized American citizen.
For the past year and a half, I have also volunteered with the Trauma Intervention Program, coming alongside individuals and families during moments of crisis. Providing emotional support and practical care during life’s darkest moments has been both humbling and deeply meaningful.
One of the hardest seasons of my own life came after my husband of five years and five days passed away. I felt as though my life had come to an end. My mind was foggy, and reality was difficult to process. Just hours after his passing, while I was still at the hospital, someone asked if I was going to a wedding. I remember thinking, I have to plan a funeral, not attend a wedding. I didn't think I was going to survive a day!
The road that followed was painful and difficult. We served together, faced challenges together, studied the Word together, prayed together, but I had to do all of it alone. Even now, as I write these testimonies, many memories come flooding back. Yet through it all, God has remained faithful. Friends have come and gone, seasons have changed, and many things in life have shifted—but the Lord has never forsaken me. His sustaining hand has carried me through sorrow, uncertainty, healing, and restoration.
As I look back on the journey from a small village in Kenya to serving and impacting lives across continents, I remain deeply humbled and grateful. God has been so good to me.
About Us
Consider Jesus Ministries spreads the Gospel across East Africa. Founded in 2006 by Ruth and her late husband, Rick Deam. It began with street evangelism in Kenya and now empowers pastors, women, and communities through discipleship and training.
Our mission is to proclaim Christ and Him crucified. We envision a transformed East Africa where churches are strengthened, leaders are equipped, and every community encounters the life-changing power of Christ.
We believe our ministry partners are not simply people who give, pray, or help. They are fellow laborers and Kingdom investors, faithfully investing the resources God has entrusted to them into the eternal work of proclaiming Christ and equipping others through His Word. Some are called to go, others to pray, others to give, and others to serve with their time and abilities — but all are part of the mission God is accomplishing through this ministry.
Why Consider Jesus?
Jesus alone offers salvation and everlasting life through Him (John 3:16). Rooted in Christ’s command to “go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:18–20) and in Hebrews 3:1! So, we reach, we engage, and we invite all people to consider Christ.
